Hanauma Bay (Oahu)
Hanauma Bay is a paradise formed in a volcanic cone. The clear blue water is perfect, and snorkeling is one of the most popular things to do there. We especially recommend Hanauma Bay for beginners, although there are advanced spots to snorkel there as well.
How to Get to Hanauma Bay
Hanauma Bay is about 11 miles (17 km) from Waikiki. There is no direct bus, but the Number 1 Bus lets you off at the Koko Marina shopping center, which is about a mile from the Hanauma Bay park entrance. There are no shuttles or tour buses currently allowed.
Of course if you have a car, you can drive right up to the park and save yourself the uphill walk.
Get on Interstate Highway 1E and drive along HI 72. Turn right onto Hanauma Bay Road and follow the signs for how to get to Hanauma Bay. Parking is $3 and fills up quickly, so get there before 9 am or after 1 pm to avoid the heavy-use times.
